Rolls-Royce concept previews luxury future of motoring
Rolls-Royce has revealed a show-stopping concept called Vision Next 100 in a flash ceremony held at London’s Roundhouse. The British manufacturer says the car ‘defines the future of luxury mobility’. Here we take a closer look at the most far-out Rolls-Royce ever.
SITTING ON A SOFA
Rolls-Royce has chosen a two-seat interior for the 103EX concept. This is its flash two-door coupe, then – the Ghost of the future. The rear-hinged doors remain, but this time the tops hinge upwards so occupants can simply walk into the car and sit on the sofa-style seat.
The Vision Next 100 projects a carpet-like red light from the underside of the car as its passengers emerge. So whether it’s a film premiere or a trip to Tesco’s, every arrival can be a ‘Grand Arrival’.
THE LUGGAGE OF THE FUTURE
Needless to say, Rolls-Royce has also designed the luggage of the future to fit in. These bespoke cases are fittingly personalised to CS Rolls and FH Royce – the founders of R-R.
The sofa seat is trimmed in a blend of silk and wool to create what R-R modestly calls ‘a beautifully textured, ivory-coloured luxurious throne’. With deep-pile ivory wool carpets underfoot, we’d suggest talking your muddy wellies off before you climb aboard.
GUIDED BY VOICES
The concept’s virtual chauffeur is called Eleanor – named after the model for Rolls-Royce’s Spirit of Ecstasy mascot. According to the company: ‘She brings the car around when her passengers are ready to travel’ and ‘helpfully but discreetly makes suggestions and recommendations, briefing them ahead of their arrival so they are ready to perform’.
Virtual chauffeur ‘Eleanor’ also acts as a personal assistant for owners of the Vision Next 100. Linked in with their online calendars, she can advise on appointments and keep them fully connected on the move. Alan Sugar, take note.
