How to check if your Aadhaar is active
If you haven’t used your Aadhaar in any transaction, like linking it to bank account or PAN, for three years continuously , it can become inactive, as per the UIDAI helpline and officials at an Aadhaar enrolment centre. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has deactivated about 81 lakh Aadhaar numbers till date. Earlier this week, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology P P Chaudhary informed
It takes a few simple steps to verify if your Aadhaar is active. Visit UIDAI website https://uidai.gov.in/enrolment-update/aadhaar-enrolment/aadhaar-services.html. This will take you to a page where you will be asked to enter your Aadhaar number.
If your Aadhaar is active, it will show a message displaying that your 12-digit Aadhaar number exists and it will also mention your age band, gender, state and mobile number.
On the other hand, if a number does not exist, the message will say it does not exist. This means you will need to visit an Aadhaar enrollment or update center to update the information that is missing.

What to do if your Aadhaar card is inactive? –
- You have to visit the nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre along with the supporting documents.
- You have to submit the Aadhaar update form at the centre. (You have pay a fee of Rs 25.)
- Your biometrics will be re-verified and updated. (As this process can not be done online / by post, personal visit is a must.)
